Held on most Tuesdays from 4:45 to 7:30pm, this fascinating 2.5 hour guided tour explores both the natural and cultural history of the Chimney Rock area. The tour takes you on a journey through geologic time and incorporates the anthropology and archeology of the Puebloan people who occupied this site more than 1,000 years ago. Participants will learn how to identify the common rocks and fossils in the area. Rock types impact structures, pottery, tools, and soil productivity; geologic processes determine the landscape; and, at Chimney Rock, play a central role in climate. The relationship between the pillars and the South San Juan Mountains in terms of astronomical observations will be discussed. The tour also covers the key points discussed in the archaeological focused tours like the Great House Tour.

The hike up to the Chacoan Great House Pueblo offers great views and photo opportunities but may be difficult for some due to the steep gradient, uneven footing, and elevation ending at 7600 feet. The elevation gain is 200 feet. Participants should be in reasonable physical condition and willing to hike mostly uphill for 1/3 mile (and return steeply downhill). The tour length includes 30 minutes for hiking to and from the Great House.

Tuesday Night Markets at Higher Grounds Coffee: A Summer Staple in Pagosa Springs from Memorial Day to Labor Day! Tuesday Night Markets are held weekly from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, beginning Memorial Day and continuing through Labor Day. The events are free and open to the public, with plenty of space to gather, browse, and enjoy the laid-back summer vibe.

Every Tuesday evening, Higher Grounds Coffee transforms into a vibrant outdoor marketplace, welcoming locals and visitors alike to enjoy a rotating lineup of local artisans, fresh produce, handcrafted goods, live music, and seasonal food and drink specials.

The first market of the season kicks off on Tuesday, May 27th, featuring live music from Bo DePena from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Known for his high-energy Americana sound and engaging
stage presence, Bo’s performance promises to set the tone for a fantastic season of community and connection.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to relax in the grassy areas around Higher Grounds Coffee, making it the perfect spot to unwind, connect with friends, and enjoy the
summer evening.

A Mystery Tour of Chimney Rock is offered on Monday and Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and on Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. This engaging two-hour tour will spotlight several topics aimed specifically at interpreting the history and significance of Chimney Rock and the ancestral Puebloans who inhabited the area over 1,000 years ago. The tour delves into the connection of Chimney Rock to the greater Chaco Culture, the significance of the mesa top Great House Pueblo, and the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants of Chimney Rock.

The tour takes visitors along both the Mesa Village Trail and the Great House Trail to learn specifics about the structures along the way – their significance and uses. At the end of the trail, visitors will enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view from atop the mesa ridge. They will also be afforded the closest view possible of the two pinnacles: Chimney Rock and Companion Rock. Peregrine falcons are often sighted on the left side of Companion Rock, so cameras are a must! Of special note, the tour will be conducted in the quiet off-hours of the Monument. The hike up to the Chacoan Great House Pueblo may be difficult for some due to the steep gradient, uneven footing, and elevation ending at 7600 feet. The elevation gain is 200 feet. Casual Wednesday workday at the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership takes place each Wednesday from 6-7:30pm at the greenhouse domes at Centennial Park. The workday is a perfect mix of social time and hands-on gardening as we work to improve our site.

THE ARCHULETA COUNTY DEMOCRATS ARE HOSTING A SPECIAL SCREENING OF SUFFRAGETTE: CELEBRATING WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE AND THE 105TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE 19TH AMENDMENT.

The event at Liberty will feature a 7 minute short documentary on women’s history followed by the screening of Suffragette. Cocktail hour begins when doors open at 6pm with a cash bar and a curated menu of themed cocktails and mocktails at Caldwell’s Liberty Bar.  After the film, door prizes will be awarded.  Each ticket holder will receive one entry for door prizes.

Guests are encouraged to wear “white” to honor the original suffragettes. 

Women’s Equality Day is celebrated annually on August 26 to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.

Garden Adventures for Kids

Join us for this drop-in, family friendly way for kids to learn, have fun and, get to know more about the Pagosa Springs Community Garden, all free of charge. Kids will learn all about how plants grow, why gardening is good for us, and how it can help our town!

July 19th – Make a Plant Buddy
We will be decorating small pots with googly eyes and paints to create our own plant buddies to take home. We will fill the pots with indoor friendly plants that grow into our buddies’ hair!

August 2nd – Brighten the Garden
Our garden needs some new signs. Come help members of the community garden paint signs and rocks to add color and information to our garden. This activity is appropriate for most ages. Adults are encouraged to participate.

August 16th – Exploring the Garden
We will be using flowers, leaves, sticks and whatever else nature provides to make beautiful paintings to take home.

August 30th – Stained Glass Mosaic
We will be using nature and craft supplies to make our own stained ‘glass’ windows. Come create a beautiful piece of art and capture the last signs of summer to take home with you.

We will try and have ample supplies however this will be first come first served so arrive on time. There is no charge for supplies.

Looking for a unique fishing trip?  Backcountry Outfitters offers morning 4 hour horseback fishing excursions on the Piedra Saturday mornings from 9 am till Noon.  Packed lunch is Provided, guests are responsible for all tackle, fishing gear and licensing.

The Pagosa Springs Farmer’s Markets will be held each Saturday beginning June 14th and continuing through October. The Market opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 1:00pm. This year, the market will be held at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church off of South Pagosa Blvd.

The Farmers Market features goods from local farms and gardens in Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County and regional farms in the Four Corners area.

Featuring vendors with fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, flowers, honey, locally produced meats, locally roasted coffee beans, free-range eggs, homemade breads and pastries, fresh and dried mushrooms, handmade chocolates, meals-to-go, herbal products, seedlings and more, from the source direct to you.

In partnership with Healthy Archuleta, we operate to prevent food insecurities through our various voucher programs.

Experience the healing benefits of epic spacial vibrations produced by large gongs, singing bowls and other sound instruments made out of new and ancient metals, clay and wood. These unique instruments will surround you in our 1300 square feet acoustical sound space. Experience sound journeys on the first, third and fifth Saturdays of each month, or book a private session!
